So you just bought a new house and have to start decorating. You are clueless as to how you would design your house to create a “homey” environment. Here are some techniques that you can use to quickly change that empty room into a place of relaxation that has a very nice ambiance.

Measure your room first before deciding to head to the furniture shop to buy some furniture. You can use cut out newspaper to scale the room: 1 foot = 1 inch and see if the furniture will be proportioned to the room. Make sure that you still have space left for people to walk around your furniture. You do not want them to bump into things.

If you are the type of person that likes Zen effects, then mix and match different styles of stuff, like oriental pieces with contemporary furniture. Make sure they blend together and do not look like you overdid it.
